Yale Students Study “In Defense of Looting,” Written by “Black Lives Matter” Protester

Some students at Yale are studying the article “In Defense of Looting,” written by a “Black Lives Matter” protester.

This came to light after a student at Yale tweeted about what she was learning in one of her classes:
According to the absurd article the student linked to, “The mystifying ideological claim that looting is violent and non-political is one that has been carefully produced by the ruling class because it is precisely the violent maintenance of property which is both the basis and end of their power.”

In other words, saying that looting is violent and non-political is just a argument created by the “ruling class” to keep people down.

“Looting is extremely dangerous to the rich (and most white people) because it reveals, with an immediacy that has to be moralized away, that the idea of private property is just that: an idea, a tenuous and contingent structure of consent, backed up by the lethal force of the state,” the piece continues. “When rioters take territory and loot, they are revealing precisely how, in a space without cops, property relations can be destroyed and things can be had for free.”

The author of the article, a Black Lives Matter protester, then writes, “On a less abstract level there is a practical and tactical benefit to looting.”

It stunningly continues, “Why is it bad to grab an opportunity to improve well-being, to make life better, easier, or more comfortable? Or, as Hannah Black put it on Twitter: “Cops exist so people can’t loot ie have nice things for free so idk why it’s so confusing that people loot when they protest against cops” [sic].

“Only if you believe that having nice things for free is amoral, if you believe, in short, that the current (white-supremacist, settler-colonialist) regime of property is just, can you believe that looting is amoral in itself.”

  2. Are looters stealing from cops? No, they're stealing from people with businesses, often small businesses. They're stealing from their own neighbors.

You seriously harm your image with this unbelievably stupid essay.

No, they have that wrong. It is backed by the potential use of lethal force of the individual that owns the property. You are also making an excellent case for the continued possession of arms by the people.

"When rioters take territory and loot, they are revealing precisely how, in a space without cops, property relations can be destroyed and things can be had for free."

That is most dramatic example of short range thinking I think I've ever seen. Your one day of freebies will guarantee that business will not rebuild in your area and that where you live will always be the slum you made it into. You do not have the capacity to create and there is only so much taking to be done.

Because you didn't create it, didn't earn it and your idea makes no provision for replacing anything once it is stolen and used. Because you aren't stealing from the cops, you are stealing from your neighbors who have worked to create and buy what you would steal without returning anything of value. In short you are demonstrating yourselves to be valueless individuals who are nothing but a risk to society.

  5. Violence is not a medium for exchange. It has no inherent value, it cannot trade hands, it cannot be exchanged for goods or services in any type of traditional economic process.

Therefore, it shouldn't cost me much to shoot your looting ass right in the forehead when you try to steal what I've earned through work.

Know this BLM'ers – some of us are counting on the police NOT being around when you attempt your "street reparations". No police? No one to protect you from ME, or to identify who sent that rifle bullet through your skull while you were trying to force your way into my neighbors home or business.

Loot away. I've got a range-card taped to my stock with accurate, premeasured distances for every inch of my street, both ways. If I can see you, I can kill you.

  6. So this article is promoting civil rights by violating other peoples civil rights? Makes sense if you're a socialist…
