Washington Post Columnist Says it is “Sexist” to Call Soccer Players “Heroes, Mothers”

The official feed of the England’s Football Team tweeted this today:
The tweet refers to the Fifa soccer championship that ended in Canada this past week. For several weeks, both men and women soccer players were away from their families.

In context, the tweet clearly means that the members of the women’s soccer team of England are returning to their families, but they’re not just soccer players, mothers, daughters, or partners anymore. They’re also heroes.

According to the Washington Post’s Ishaan Tharoor this is “terrible” and “sexist.” He then quickly penned an article titled, “The terrible, sexist tweet that shows how far women’s soccer still has to go.” He also tweeted:
